Programs and Services

In 2010, SAYNO began to access the program’s overall effectiveness and outcomes. During this process, the organization saw the opportunity to revise its philosophy and service delivery models. As a result, many a number of new programs have been developed.

NEW ORGANIZATION PHILOSOPHIES

1. A prevention program is any program that deters youth from risk-taking behaviors (i.e. book clubs, chess clubs, etc...).

2. Wellness should be incorporated in all programs- In order to attain and maintain harmony and balance one’s life, all dimensions of wellness must be addressed: physical, mental, spiritual, career, social, family, and financial.

3. All programs and services are targeted to youth, ages 12 to 17.

CORE PROGRAMS

Chess Beats the Streets Program

The Chess Beats the Streets Program will assist youth to develop analytical, synthetic and decision-making skills, which they can transfer to real life, learn to engage in deep and thorough research, which will help them build their confidence in their ability to do academic research, and gain insights into the nature of competition, which will help them in any competitive endeavor.

Community Assistance Revitalization Education (CARE) Program

The goal of the CARE Program to address underage drinking in the King Hill community. This program is funded by the Alabama Department of Mental Health.

Readers are Leaders Book Club Program

The Readers are Leaders Book Club Program is for girls, ages 12 to 17. The program goals are to expose participants to books that depict positive female characters; provide a forum where young girls have an opportunity to discuss and address complex issues relevant to their lives (i.e. family, friendship, trust, isolation, violence, peer pressure, relationships, domestic violence); promote social skills and interactive relationships/friendships among peers; and promote the practice of journaling as a method of self-expression and to increase writing skills.

Annual Youth Leadership Conference

This purpose of this annual conference is to increase and expand the fundamental knowledge, skills, and understanding that youth need to become effective leaders in their lives and communities.
